Job 1

 Darby Translation (1889) - go to synopsisAuthorised (King James) Version (1769)
1There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job; and this man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God and abstained from evil.There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name [was] Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.
2And there were born to him seven sons and three daughters.And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.
3And his substance was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she-asses, and very many servants; and this man was greater than all the children of the east.His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.
4And his sons went and made a feast in the house of each one on his day; and they sent and invited their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.And his sons went and feasted [in their] houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.
5And it was so, when the days of the feasting were gone about, that Job sent and hallowed them; and he rose up early in the morning, and offered up burnt-offerings [according to] the number of them all; for Job said, It may be that my children have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.And it was so, when the days of [their] feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings [according] to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.
6And there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before Jehovah; and Satan came also among them.Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.
7And Jehovah said to Satan, Whence comest thou? And Satan answered Jehovah and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
8And Jehovah said to Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God and abstaineth from evil?And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that [there is] none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
9And Satan answered Jehovah and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?
10Hast not thou made a hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? Thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is spread abroad in the land.Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
11But put forth thy hand now and touch all that he hath, [and see] if he will not curse thee to thy face!But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.
12And Jehovah said to Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy hand; only upon himself put not forth thy hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of Jehovah.And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath [is] in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.
13And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in the house of their brother, the firstborn.And there was a day when his sons and his daughters [were] eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:
14And there came a messenger to Job and said, The oxen were ploughing, and the asses feeding beside them;And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them:
15and [they of] Sheba fell [upon them] and took them, and the servants have they smitten with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped, alone, to tell thee.And the Sabeans fell [upon them], and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
16While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped, alone, to tell thee.While he [was] yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
17While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, The Chaldeans made three bands, and fell upon the camels and took them, and the servants have they smitten with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped, alone, to tell thee.While he [was] yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
18While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in the house of their brother, the firstborn;While he [was] yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters [were] eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:
19and behold, there came a great wind from over the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they died; and I only am escaped, alone, to tell thee.And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
20And Job rose up, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down on the ground, and worshipped;Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,
21and he said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: Jehovah gave, and Jehovah hath taken away; blessed be the name of Jehovah!And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
22In all this Job sinned not, nor ascribed anything unseemly to God.In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.

Job 2

 Darby Translation (1889) - go to synopsisAuthorised (King James) Version (1769)
1And there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before Jehovah, and Satan also came among them to present himself before Jehovah.Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.
2And Jehovah said to Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered Jehovah and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.And the LORD said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
3And Jehovah said to Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God and abstaineth from evil? and still he remaineth firm in his integrity, though thou movedst me against him, to swallow him up without cause.And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that [there is] none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.
4And Satan answered Jehovah and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life;And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.
5but put forth thy hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, [and see] if he will not curse thee to thy face!But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.
6And Jehovah said to Satan, Behold, he is in thy hand; only spare his life.And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he [is] in thine hand; but save his life.
7And Satan went forth from the presence of Jehovah; and he smote Job with a grievous botch from the sole of his foot unto his crown.So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.
8And he took a potsherd to scrape himself with; and he sat among the ashes.And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes.
9And his wife said to him, Dost thou still remain firm in thine integrity? curse God and die.Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.
10But he said to her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. We have also received good from God, and should we not receive evil? In all this Job did not sin with his lips.But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.
11And three friends of Job heard of all this evil that was come upon him. And they came each one from his place: Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite; and they made an appointment together to come to condole with him and to comfort him.Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.
12And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice and wept. And they rent every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward the heavens.And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they rent every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven.
13And they sat down with him on the ground seven days and seven nights; and none spoke a word to him; for they saw that [his] anguish was very great.So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spake a word unto him: for they saw that [his] grief was very great.

Job 3

1After this, Job opened his mouth and cursed his day.After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day.
2And Job answered and said,And Job spake, and said,
3Let the day perish in which I was born, and the night that said, There is a man child conceived.Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night [in which] it was said, There is a man child conceived.
4That day -- let it be darkness, let not +God care for it from above, neither let light shine upon it:Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it.
5Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it; let clouds dwell upon it; let darkeners of the day terrify it.Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.
6That night -- let gloom seize upon it; let it not rejoice among the days of the year; let it not come into the number of the months.As [for] that night, let darkness seize upon it; let it not be joined unto the days of the year, let it not come into the number of the months.
7Behold, let that night be barren; let no joyful sound come therein;Lo, let that night be solitary, let no joyful voice come therein.
8Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to rouse Leviathan;Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to raise up their mourning.
9Let the stars of its twilight be dark; let it wait for light, and have none, neither let it see the eyelids of the dawn:Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but [have] none; neither let it see the dawning of the day:
10Because it shut not up the doors of the womb that bore me, and hid not trouble from mine eyes.Because it shut not up the doors of my [mother's] womb, nor hid sorrow from mine eyes.
11Wherefore did I not die from the womb, -- come forth from the belly and expire?Why died I not from the womb? [why] did I [not] give up the ghost when I came out of the belly?
12Why did the knees meet me? and wherefore the breasts, that I should suck?Why did the knees prevent me? or why the breasts that I should suck?
13For now should I have lain down and been quiet; I should have slept: then had I been at rest,For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then had I been at rest,
14With kings and counsellors of the earth, who build desolate places for themselves,With kings and counsellors of the earth, which built desolate places for themselves;
15Or with princes who had gold, who filled their houses with silver;Or with princes that had gold, who filled their houses with silver:
16Or as a hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants that have not seen the light.Or as an hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants [which] never saw light.
17There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the wearied are at rest.There the wicked cease [from] troubling; and there the weary be at rest.
18The prisoners together are at ease; they hear not the voice of the taskmaster.[There] the prisoners rest together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor.
19The small and great are there, and the bondman freed from his master.The small and great are there; and the servant [is] free from his master.
20Wherefore is light given to him that is in trouble, and life to those bitter of soul,Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter [in] soul;
21Who long for death, and it [cometh] not, and dig for it more than for hidden treasures;Which long for death, but it [cometh] not; and dig for it more than for hid treasures;
22Who rejoice even exultingly and are glad when they find the grave? --Which rejoice exceedingly, [and] are glad, when they can find the grave?
23To the man whose way is hidden, and whom +God hath hedged in?[Why is light given] to a man whose way is hid, and whom God hath hedged in?
24For my sighing cometh before my bread, and my groanings are poured out like the waters.For my sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like the waters.
25For I feared a fear, and it hath come upon me, and that which I dreaded hath come to me.For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.
26I was not in safety, neither had I quietness, neither was I at rest, and trouble came.I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came.

Job 4

1And Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
2If a word were essayed to thee, wouldest thou be grieved? But who can refrain from speaking?[If] we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking?
3Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands;Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.
4Thy words have upholden him that was stumbling, and thou hast braced up the bending knees:Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.
5But now it is come upon thee, and thou grievest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.
6Hath not thy piety been thy confidence, and the perfection of thy ways thy hope?[Is] not [this] thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?
7Remember, I pray thee, who that was innocent has perished? and where were the upright cut off?Remember, I pray thee, who [ever] perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?
8Even as I have seen, they that plough iniquity and sow mischief, reap the same.Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.
9By the breath of +God they perish, and by the blast of his nostrils are they consumed.By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed.
10The roar of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken;The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken.
11The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the whelps of the lioness are scattered.The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the stout lion's whelps are scattered abroad.
12Now to me a word was secretly brought, and mine ear received a whisper thereof.Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof.
13In thoughts from visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men: --In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men,
14Fear came on me, and trembling, and made all my bones to shake;Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake.
15And a spirit passed before my face -- the hair of my flesh stood up --Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up:
16It stood still; I could not discern the appearance thereof: a form was before mine eyes; I heard a slight murmur and a voice:It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image [was] before mine eyes, [there was] silence, and I heard a voice, [saying],
17Shall [mortal] man be more just than +God? Shall a man be purer than his Maker?Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?
18Lo, he trusteth not his servants, and his angels he chargeth with folly:Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly:
19How much more them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed as the moth!How much less [in] them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation [is] in the dust, [which] are crushed before the moth?
20From morning to evening are they smitten: without any heeding it, they perish for ever.They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without any regarding [it].
21Is not their tent-cord torn away in them? they die, and without wisdom.Doth not their excellency [which is] in them go away? they die, even without wisdom.

1Call, I pray thee! Is there any that answereth thee? and to which of the holy ones wilt thou turn?Call now, if there be any that will answer thee; and to which of the saints wilt thou turn?
2For vexation killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the simple.For wrath killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the silly one.
3I myself saw the foolish taking root, but suddenly I cursed his habitation.I have seen the foolish taking root: but suddenly I cursed his habitation.
4His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, and there is no deliverer:His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither [is there] any to deliver [them].
5Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh even out of the thorns; and the snare gapeth for his substance.Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh it even out of the thorns, and the robber swalloweth up their substance.
6For evil cometh not forth from the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;Although affliction cometh not forth of the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;
7For man is born to trouble, as the sparks fly upwards.Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.
8But as for me I will seek unto God, and unto God commit my cause;I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:
9Who doeth great things and unsearchable, marvellous things without number;Which doeth great things and unsearchable; marvellous things without number:
10Who giveth rain on the face of the earth, and sendeth waters on the face of the fields;Who giveth rain upon the earth, and sendeth waters upon the fields:
11Setting up on high those that are low; and mourners are exalted to prosperity.To set up on high those that be low; that those which mourn may be exalted to safety.
12He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, and their hands carry not out the enterprise.He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform [their] enterprise.
13He taketh the wise in their own craftiness; and the counsel of the wily is carried headlong:He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.
14They meet with darkness in the daytime, and grope at midday as in the night.They meet with darkness in the daytime, and grope in the noonday as in the night.
15And he saveth the needy from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.But he saveth the poor from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.
16So the poor hath what he hopeth for, and unrighteousness stoppeth her mouth.So the poor hath hope, and iniquity stoppeth her mouth.
17Behold, happy is the man whom +God correcteth; therefore despise not the chastening of the Almighty.Behold, happy [is] the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:
18For he maketh sore, and bindeth up; he woundeth, and his hands make whole.For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.
19He will deliver thee in six troubles, and in seven there shall no evil touch thee.He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.
20In famine he will redeem thee from death, and in war from the power of the sword.In famine he shall redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of the sword.
21Thou shalt be hidden from the scourge of the tongue; and thou shalt not be afraid of destruction when it cometh.Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue: neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh.
22At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh, and of the beasts of the earth thou shalt not be afraid.At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh: neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth.
23For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field, and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field: and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.
24And thou shalt know that thy tent is in peace; and thou wilt survey thy fold, and miss nothing.And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle [shall be] in peace; and thou shalt visit thy habitation, and shalt not sin.
25And thou shalt know that thy seed is numerous, and thine offspring as the herb of the earth.Thou shalt know also that thy seed [shall be] great, and thine offspring as the grass of the earth.
26Thou shalt come to the grave in a ripe age, as a shock of corn is brought in in its season.Thou shalt come to [thy] grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season.
27Behold this, we have searched it out, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thyself.Lo this, we have searched it, so it [is]; hear it, and know thou [it] for thy good.

1And Job answered and said,But Job answered and said,
2Oh that my grief were thoroughly weighed, and all my calamity laid in the balances!Oh that my grief were throughly weighed, and my calamity laid in the balances together!
3For now it would be heavier than the sand of the seas; therefore my words are vehement.For now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea: therefore my words are swallowed up.
4For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, their poison drinketh up my spirit: the terrors of +God are arrayed against me.For the arrows of the Almighty [are] within me, the poison whereof drinketh up my spirit: the terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

6Shall that which is insipid be eaten without salt? Is there any taste in the white of an egg?Can that which is unsavoury be eaten without salt? or is there [any] taste in the white of an egg?
7What my soul refuseth to touch, that is as my loathsome food.The things [that] my soul refused to touch [are] as my sorrowful meat.
8Oh that I might have my request, and that +God would grant my desire!Oh that I might have my request; and that God would grant [me] the thing that I long for!
9And that it would please +God to crush me, that he would let loose his hand and cut me off!Even that it would please God to destroy me; that he would let loose his hand, and cut me off!
10Then should I yet have comfort; and in the pain which spareth not I would rejoice that I have not denied the words of the Holy One.Then should I yet have comfort; yea, I would harden myself in sorrow: let him not spare; for I have not concealed the words of the Holy One.
11What is my strength, that I should hope? and what is mine end, that I should have patience?What [is] my strength, that I should hope? and what [is] mine end, that I should prolong my life?
12Is my strength the strength of stones? is my flesh of brass?[Is] my strength the strength of stones? or [is] my flesh of brass?
13Is it not that there is no help in me, and soundness is driven away from me?[Is] not my help in me? and is wisdom driven quite from me?
14For him that is fainting kindness [is meet] from his friend; or he forsaketh the fear of the Almighty.To him that is afflicted pity [should be shewed] from his friend; but he forsaketh the fear of the Almighty.
15My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a stream, as the channel of streams which pass away,My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, [and] as the stream of brooks they pass away;

17At the time they diminish, they are dried up; when heat affecteth them, they vanish from their place:What time they wax warm, they vanish: when it is hot, they are consumed out of their place.
18They wind about in the paths of their course, they go off into the waste and perish.The paths of their way are turned aside; they go to nothing, and perish.

21So now ye are nothing; ye see a terrible object and are afraid.For now ye are nothing; ye see [my] casting down, and are afraid.
22Did I say, Bring unto me, and make me a present from your substance?Did I say, Bring unto me? or, Give a reward for me of your substance?
23Or, rescue me from the hand of the oppressor, and redeem me from the hand of the violent?Or, Deliver me from the enemy's hand? or, Redeem me from the hand of the mighty?
24Teach me, and I will hold my tongue; and cause me to understand wherein I have erred.Teach me, and I will hold my tongue: and cause me to understand wherein I have erred.
25How forcible are right words! but what doth your upbraiding reprove?How forcible are right words! but what doth your arguing reprove?
26Do ye imagine to reprove words? The speeches of one that is desperate are indeed for the wind.Do ye imagine to reprove words, and the speeches of one that is desperate, [which are] as wind?
27Yea, ye overwhelm the fatherless, and dig [a pit] for your friend.Yea, ye overwhelm the fatherless, and ye dig [a pit] for your friend.
28Now therefore if ye will, look upon me; and it shall be to your face if I lie.Now therefore be content, look upon me; for [it is] evident unto you if I lie.
29Return, I pray you, let there be no wrong; yea, return again, my righteousness shall be in it.Return, I pray you, let it not be iniquity; yea, return again, my righteousness [is] in it.
30Is there wrong in my tongue? cannot my taste discern mischievous things?Is there iniquity in my tongue? cannot my taste discern perverse things?

1Hath not man a life of labour upon earth? and are not his days like the days of a hireling?[Is there] not an appointed time to man upon earth? [are not] his days also like the days of an hireling?
2As a bondman earnestly desireth the shadow, and a hireling expecteth his wages,As a servant earnestly desireth the shadow, and as an hireling looketh for [the reward of] his work:
3So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me.So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me.
4If I lie down, I say, When shall I rise up, and the darkness be gone? and I am full of tossings until the dawn.When I lie down, I say, When shall I arise, and the night be gone? and I am full of tossings to and fro unto the dawning of the day.
5My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust; my skin is broken, and suppurates.My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust; my skin is broken, and become loathsome.
6My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, and are spent without hope.My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, and are spent without hope.
7Remember thou that my life is wind; mine eye shall no more see good.O remember that my life [is] wind: mine eye shall no more see good.
8The eye of him that hath seen me shall behold me no [more]: thine eyes are upon me, and I am not.The eye of him that hath seen me shall see me no [more]: thine eyes [are] upon me, and I [am] not.
9The cloud consumeth and vanisheth away; so he that goeth down to Sheol shall not come up.[As] the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no [more].
10He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him again.He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more.
11Therefore I will not restrain my mouth: I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.Therefore I will not refrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.
12Am I a sea, or a sea-monster, that thou settest a watch over me?[Am] I a sea, or a whale, that thou settest a watch over me?
13When I say, My bed shall comfort me, my couch shall ease my complaint;When I say, My bed shall comfort me, my couch shall ease my complaint;
14Then thou scarest me with dreams, and terrifiest me through visions;Then thou scarest me with dreams, and terrifiest me through visions:
15So that my soul chooseth strangling, death, rather than my bones.So that my soul chooseth strangling, [and] death rather than my life.
16I loathe it; I shall not live always: let me alone, for my days are a breath.I loathe [it]; I would not live alway: let me alone; for my days [are] vanity.
17What is man, that thou makest much of him? and that thou settest thy heart upon him?What [is] man, that thou shouldest magnify him? and that thou shouldest set thine heart upon him?
18And that thou visitest him every morning, triest him every moment?And [that] thou shouldest visit him every morning, [and] try him every moment?
19How long wilt thou not look away from me, nor let me alone till I swallow down my spittle?How long wilt thou not depart from me, nor let me alone till I swallow down my spittle?
20Have I sinned, what do I unto thee, thou Observer of men? Why hast thou set me as an object of assault for thee, so that I am become a burden to myself?I have sinned; what shall I do unto thee, O thou preserver of men? why hast thou set me as a mark against thee, so that I am a burden to myself?
21And why dost not thou forgive my transgression and take away mine iniquity? for now shall I lie down in the dust, and thou shalt seek me early, and I shall not be.And why dost thou not pardon my transgression, and take away mine iniquity? for now shall I sleep in the dust; and thou shalt seek me in the morning, but I [shall] not [be].

1And Job answered and said,Then Job answered and said,
2Of a truth I know it is so; but how can man be just with God?I know [it is] so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?
3If he shall choose to strive with him, he cannot answer him one thing of a thousand.If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.

5Who removeth mountains, and they know it not, when he overturneth them in his anger;Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger.
6Who shaketh the earth out of its place, and the pillars thereof tremble;Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.
7Who commandeth the sun, and it riseth not, and he sealeth up the stars;Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.
8Who alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the high waves of the sea;Which alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea.
9Who maketh the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, and the chambers of the south;Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.
10Who doeth great things past finding out, and wonders without number.Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, and wonders without number.
11Lo, he goeth by me, and I see [him] not; and he passeth along, and I perceive him not.Lo, he goeth by me, and I see [him] not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not.
12Behold, he taketh away: who will hinder him? Who will say unto him, What doest thou?Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What doest thou?
13+God withdraweth not his anger; the proud helpers stoop under him:[If] God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.
14How much less shall I answer him, choose out my words [to strive] with him?How much less shall I answer him, [and] choose out my words [to reason] with him?
15Whom, though I were righteous, [yet] would I not answer; I would make supplication to my judge.Whom, though I were righteous, [yet] would I not answer, [but] I would make supplication to my judge.
16If I had called, and he had answered me, I would not believe that he hearkened to my voice, --If I had called, and he had answered me; [yet] would I not believe that he had hearkened unto my voice.

19Be it a question of strength, lo, [he is] strong; and be it of judgment, who will set me a time?If [I speak] of strength, lo, [he is] strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time [to plead]?
20If I justified myself, mine own mouth would condemn me; were I perfect, he would prove me perverse.If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: [if I say], I [am] perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.

33There is not an umpire between us, who should lay his hand upon us both.Neither is there any daysman betwixt us, [that] might lay his hand upon us both.
34Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his terror make me afraid,Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me:

2I will say unto +God, Do not condemn me; shew me wherefore thou strivest with me.I will say unto God, Do not condemn me; shew me wherefore thou contendest with me.
3Doth it please thee to oppress, that thou shouldest despise the work of thy hands, and shine upon the counsel of the wicked?[Is it] good unto thee that thou shouldest oppress, that thou shouldest despise the work of thine hands, and shine upon the counsel of the wicked?
4Hast thou eyes of flesh? or seest thou as man seeth?Hast thou eyes of flesh? or seest thou as man seeth?
5Are thy days as the days of a mortal? are thy years as a man's days,[Are] thy days as the days of man? [are] thy years as man's days,
6That thou searchest after mine iniquity, and inquirest into my sin;That thou enquirest after mine iniquity, and searchest after my sin?
7Since thou knowest that I am not wicked, and that there is none that delivereth out of thy hand?Thou knowest that I am not wicked; and [there is] none that can deliver out of thine hand.
8Thy hands have bound me together and made me as one, round about; yet dost thou swallow me up!Thine hands have made me and fashioned me together round about; yet thou dost destroy me.
9Remember, I beseech thee, that thou hast made me as clay, and wilt bring me into dust again.Remember, I beseech thee, that thou hast made me as the clay; and wilt thou bring me into dust again?
10Hast thou not poured me out as milk, and curdled me like cheese?Hast thou not poured me out as milk, and curdled me like cheese?
11Thou hast clothed me with skin and flesh, and knit me together with bones and sinews;Thou hast clothed me with skin and flesh, and hast fenced me with bones and sinews.
12Thou hast granted me life and favour, and thy care hath preserved my spirit;Thou hast granted me life and favour, and thy visitation hath preserved my spirit.
13And these things didst thou hide in thy heart; I know that this was with thee.And these [things] hast thou hid in thine heart: I know that this [is] with thee.
14If I sinned, thou wouldest mark me, and thou wouldest not acquit me of mine iniquity.If I sin, then thou markest me, and thou wilt not acquit me from mine iniquity.
15If I were wicked, woe unto me! and righteous, I will not lift up my head, being [so] full of shame, and beholding mine affliction; --If I be wicked, woe unto me; and [if] I be righteous, [yet] will I not lift up my head. [I am] full of confusion; therefore see thou mine affliction;
16And it increaseth: thou huntest me as a fierce lion; and ever again thou shewest thy marvellous power upon me.For it increaseth. Thou huntest me as a fierce lion: and again thou shewest thyself marvellous upon me.
17Thou renewest thy witnesses before me and increasest thy displeasure against me; successions [of evil] and a time of toil are with me.Thou renewest thy witnesses against me, and increasest thine indignation upon me; changes and war [are] against me.
18And wherefore didst thou bring me forth out of the womb? I had expired, and no eye had seen me.Wherefore then hast thou brought me forth out of the womb? Oh that I had given up the ghost, and no eye had seen me!
19I should be as though I had not been; I should have been carried from the womb to the grave.I should have been as though I had not been; I should have been carried from the womb to the grave.
20Are not my days few? cease then and let me alone, that I may revive a little,[Are] not my days few? cease [then, and] let me alone, that I may take comfort a little,
21Before I go, and never to return, -- to the land of darkness and the shadow of death;Before I go [whence] I shall not return, [even] to the land of darkness and the shadow of death;
22A land of gloom, as darkness itself; of the shadow of death, without any order, where the light is as thick darkness.A land of darkness, as darkness [itself; and] of the shadow of death, without any order, and [where] the light [is] as darkness.

1And Zophar the Naamathite answered and said,Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,
2Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man of much talk be justified?Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?
3Should thy fictions make men hold their peace? and shouldest thou mock, and no one make [thee] ashamed?Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?
4For thou sayest, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in thine eyes.For thou hast said, My doctrine [is] pure, and I am clean in thine eyes.
5But oh that +God would speak, and open his lips against thee;But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;
6And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, how that they are the double of what is realised; and know that +God passeth by [much] of thine iniquity!And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that [they are] double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee [less] than thine iniquity [deserveth].
7Canst thou by searching find out +God? canst thou find out the Almighty to perfection?Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?
8[It is as] the heights of heaven; what wilt thou do? deeper than Sheol; what canst thou know?[It is] as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?
9The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.The measure thereof [is] longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.
10If he pass by, and shut up, and call to judgment, who can hinder him?If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him?
11For he knoweth vain men, and seeth wickedness when [man] doth not consider it;For he knoweth vain men: he seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider [it]?
12Yet a senseless man will make bold, though man be born [like] the foal of a wild ass.For vain man would be wise, though man be born [like] a wild ass's colt.
13If thou prepare thy heart and stretch out thy hands toward him,If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him;
14If thou put far away the iniquity which is in thy hand, and let not wrong dwell in thy tents;If iniquity [be] in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.
15Surely then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot, and thou shalt be stedfast and shalt not fear:For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear:
16For thou shalt forget misery; as waters that are passed away shalt thou remember it;Because thou shalt forget [thy] misery, [and] remember [it] as waters [that] pass away:
17And life shall arise brighter than noonday; though thou be enshrouded in darkness, thou shalt be as the morning,And [thine] age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.
18And thou shalt have confidence, because there shall be hope; and having searched about [thee], thou shalt take rest in safety.And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig [about thee, and] thou shalt take thy rest in safety.
19Yea, thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; and many shall seek thy favour.Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make [thee] afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee.
20But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and [all] refuge shall vanish from them, and their hope [shall be] the breathing out of life.But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope [shall be as] the giving up of the ghost.

6Look away from him; and let him rest, till he accomplish, as a hireling, his day.Turn from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as an hireling, his day.
7For there is hope for a tree: if it be cut down, it will sprout again, and its tender branch will not cease;For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.
8Though its root grow old in the earth, and its stock die in the ground,Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;
9Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and put forth boughs like a young plant.[Yet] through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.
10But a man dieth, and is prostrate; yea, man expireth, and where is he?But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where [is] he?
11The waters recede from the lake, and the river wasteth and drieth up:[As] the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up:
12So man lieth down, and riseth not again; till the heavens be no more, they do not awake, nor are raised out of their sleep.So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens [be] no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.
13Oh that thou wouldest hide me in Sheol, that thou wouldest keep me secret until thine anger be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me, --O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me!
14(If a man die, shall he live [again]?) all the days of my time of toil would I wait, till my change should come:If a man die, shall he live [again]? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.
15Thou wouldest call, and I would answer thee; thou wouldest have a desire after the work of thy hands.Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands.
16For now thou numberest my steps: dost thou not watch over my sin?For now thou numberest my steps: dost thou not watch over my sin?
17My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and thou heapest up mine iniquity.My transgression [is] sealed up in a bag, and thou sewest up mine iniquity.
18And indeed a mountain falling cometh to nought, and the rock is removed out of its place;And surely the mountain falling cometh to nought, and the rock is removed out of his place.
19The waters wear the stones, the floods thereof wash away the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man.The waters wear the stones: thou washest away the things which grow [out] of the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man.
20Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth away; thou changest his countenance, and dismissest him.Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.
21His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, and he perceiveth it not.His sons come to honour, and he knoweth [it] not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth [it] not of them.
22But his flesh hath pain for himself alone, and his soul mourneth for himself.But his flesh upon him shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn.

1And Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,
2Should a wise man answer with windy knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind,Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?
3Reasoning with unprofitable talk, and with speeches which do no good?Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches wherewith he can do no good?
4Yea, thou makest piety of none effect, and restrainest meditation before God.Yea, thou castest off fear, and restrainest prayer before God.
5For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou hast chosen the tongue of the crafty.For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.
6Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I; and thy lips testify against thee.Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I: yea, thine own lips testify against thee.
7Art thou the first man that was born? and wast thou brought forth before the hills?[Art] thou the first man [that] was born? or wast thou made before the hills?
8Hast thou listened in the secret council of +God? And hast thou absorbed wisdom for thyself?Hast thou heard the secret of God? and dost thou restrain wisdom to thyself?
9What knowest thou that we know not? [what] understandest thou which is not in us?What knowest thou, that we know not? [what] understandest thou, which [is] not in us?
10Both the greyheaded and the aged are with us, older than thy father.With us [are] both the grayheaded and very aged men, much elder than thy father.
11Are the consolations of God too small for thee? and the word gently spoken to thee?[Are] the consolations of God small with thee? is there any secret thing with thee?
12Why doth thy heart carry thee away? and why do thine eyes wink?Why doth thine heart carry thee away? and what do thy eyes wink at,
13That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest words go out of thy mouth?That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest [such] words go out of thy mouth?
14What is man, that he should be pure? and he that is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?What [is] man, that he should be clean? and [he which is] born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
15Behold, he putteth no trust in his holy ones, and the heavens are not pure in his sight:Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight.
16How much less the abominable and corrupt, -- man, that drinketh unrighteousness like water!How much more abominable and filthy [is] man, which drinketh iniquity like water?
17I will shew thee, listen to me; and what I have seen I will declare;I will shew thee, hear me; and that [which] I have seen I will declare;
18Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hidden;Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid [it]:
19Unto whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.Unto whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.
20All his days the wicked man is tormented, and numbered years are allotted to the violent.The wicked man travaileth with pain all [his] days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor.
21The sound of terrors is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer cometh upon him.A dreadful sound [is] in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.
22He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is singled out for the sword.He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword.
23He wandereth abroad for bread, -- where may it be? He knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.He wandereth abroad for bread, [saying], Where [is it]? he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
24Distress and anguish make him afraid; they prevail against him, as a king ready for the battle.Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.
25For he hath stretched out his hand against God, and strengthened himself against the Almighty:For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.
26He runneth against him, with [outstretched] neck, with the thick bosses of his bucklers;He runneth upon him, [even] on [his] neck, upon the thick bosses of his bucklers:
27For he hath covered his face with his fatness, and gathered fat upon [his] flanks.Because he covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh collops of fat on [his] flanks.
28And he dwelleth in desolate cities, in houses that no man inhabiteth, which are destined to become heaps.And he dwelleth in desolate cities, [and] in houses which no man inhabiteth, which are ready to become heaps.
29He shall not become rich, neither shall his substance continue, and their possessions shall not extend upon the earth.He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection thereof upon the earth.
30He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches; and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.
31Let him not trust in vanity: he is deceived, for vanity shall be his recompense;Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompence.

34For the family of the ungodly shall be barren, and fire shall consume the tents of bribery.For the congregation of hypocrites [shall be] desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.
35They conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity, and their belly prepareth deceit.They conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity, and their belly prepareth deceit.

1And Job answered and said,Then Job answered and said,
2I have heard many such things: grievous comforters are ye all.I have heard many such things: miserable comforters [are] ye all.
3Shall words of wind have an end? or what provoketh thee that thou answerest?Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest?
4I also could speak as ye: if your soul were in my soul's stead, I could join together words against you, and shake my head at you;I also could speak as ye [do]: if your soul were in my soul's stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you.
5[But] I would encourage you with my mouth, and the solace of my lips should assuage [your pain].[But] I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage [your grief].
6If I speak, my pain is not assuaged; and if I forbear, what am I eased?Though I speak, my grief is not asswaged: and [though] I forbear, what am I eased?
7But now he hath made me weary; ...thou hast made desolate all my family;But now he hath made me weary: thou hast made desolate all my company.
8Thou hast shrivelled me up! it is become a witness; and my leanness riseth up against me, it beareth witness to my face.And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, [which] is a witness [against me]: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face.
9His anger teareth and pursueth me; he gnasheth with his teeth against me; [as] mine adversary he sharpeneth his eyes at me.He teareth [me] in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.
10They gape upon me with their mouth; they smite my cheeks reproachfully; they range themselves together against me.They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.
11God hath delivered me over to the iniquitous man, and hurled me into the hands of the wicked.God hath delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.
12I was at rest, but he hath shattered me; he hath taken me by the neck and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark.I was at ease, but he hath broken me asunder: he hath also taken [me] by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark.
13His arrows encompass me round about, he cleaveth my reins asunder and doth not spare; he poureth out my gall upon the ground.His archers compass me round about, he cleaveth my reins asunder, and doth not spare; he poureth out my gall upon the ground.
14He breaketh me with breach upon breach; he runneth upon me like a mighty man.He breaketh me with breach upon breach, he runneth upon me like a giant.
15I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and rolled my horn in the dust.I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and defiled my horn in the dust.
16My face is red with weeping, and on my eyelids is the shadow of death;My face is foul with weeping, and on my eyelids [is] the shadow of death;
17Although there is no violence in my hands, and my prayer is pure.Not for [any] injustice in mine hands: also my prayer [is] pure.
18O earth, cover not my blood, and let there be no place for my cry!O earth, cover not thou my blood, and let my cry have no place.
19Even now, behold, my Witness is in the heavens, and he that voucheth for me is in the heights.Also now, behold, my witness [is] in heaven, and my record [is] on high.
20My friends are my mockers; mine eye poureth out tears unto +God.My friends scorn me: [but] mine eye poureth out [tears] unto God.
21Oh that there were arbitration for a man with +God, as a son of man for his friend!O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man [pleadeth] for his neighbour!
22For years [few] in number shall pass, -- and I shall go the way [whence] I shall not return.When a few years are come, then I shall go the way [whence] I shall not return.

1My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the graves are mine.My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the graves [are ready] for me.
2Are there not mockers around me? and doth [not] mine eye abide in their provocation?[Are there] not mockers with me? and doth not mine eye continue in their provocation?
3Lay down now [a pledge], be thou surety for me with thyself: who is he that striketh hands with me?Lay down now, put me in a surety with thee; who [is] he [that] will strike hands with me?
4For thou hast hidden their heart from understanding; therefore thou wilt not exalt [them].For thou hast hid their heart from understanding: therefore shalt thou not exalt [them].
5He that betrayeth friends for a prey -- even the eyes of his children shall fail.He that speaketh flattery to [his] friends, even the eyes of his children shall fail.
6And he hath made me a proverb of the peoples; and I am become one to be spit on in the face.He hath made me also a byword of the people; and aforetime I was as a tabret.
7And mine eye is dim by reason of grief, and all my members are as a shadow.Mine eye also is dim by reason of sorrow, and all my members [are] as a shadow.
8Upright men [shall be] astonished at this, and the innocent shall be stirred up against the ungodly;Upright [men] shall be astonied at this, and the innocent shall stir up himself against the hypocrite.
9But the righteous shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall increase in strength.The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger.
10But as for you all, pray come on again; and I shall not find one wise man among you.But as for you all, do ye return, and come now: for I cannot find [one] wise [man] among you.
11My days are past, my purposes are broken off, the cherished thoughts of my heart.My days are past, my purposes are broken off, [even] the thoughts of my heart.
12They change the night into day; the light [they imagine] near in presence of the darkness.They change the night into day: the light [is] short because of darkness.
13If I wait, Sheol is my house; I spread my bed in the darkness:If I wait, the grave [is] mine house: I have made my bed in the darkness.
14I cry to the grave, Thou art my father! to the worm, My mother, and my sister!I have said to corruption, Thou [art] my father: to the worm, [Thou art] my mother, and my sister.
15And where is then my hope? yea, my hope, who shall see it?And where [is] now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?
16It shall go down to the bars of Sheol, when [our] rest shall be together in the dust.They shall go down to the bars of the pit, when [our] rest together [is] in the dust.

23God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth its place:God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.
24For he looketh to the ends of the earth, he seeth under the whole heaven.For he looketh to the ends of the earth, [and] seeth under the whole heaven;
25In making a weight for the wind, and meting out the waters by measure,To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure.
26In appointing a statute for the rain, and a way for the thunder's flash:When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder:
27Then did he see it, and declare it; he established it, yea, and searched it out;Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out.
28And unto man he said, Lo, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that [is] wisdom; and to depart from evil [is] understanding.

1And Job continued his parable and said,Moreover Job continued his parable, and said,
2Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when +God preserved me;Oh that I were as [in] months past, as [in] the days [when] God preserved me;
3When his lamp shone over my head, [and] by his light I walked through darkness;When his candle shined upon my head, [and when] by his light I walked [through] darkness;
4As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret counsel of +God was over my tent,As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God [was] upon my tabernacle;
5When the Almighty was yet with me, my young men round about me;When the Almighty [was] yet with me, [when] my children [were] about me;
6When my steps were bathed in milk, and the rock poured out beside me rivers of oil! ...When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;
7When I went out to the gate by the city, when I prepared my seat on the broadway,When I went out to the gate through the city, [when] I prepared my seat in the street!
8The young men saw me, and hid themselves; and the aged arose [and] stood up;The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose, [and] stood up.
9Princes refrained from talking, and laid the hand on their mouth;The princes refrained talking, and laid [their] hand on their mouth.
10The voice of the nobles was hushed, and their tongue cleaved to their palate.The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.
11When the ear heard [me], then it blessed me, and when the eye saw [me], it gave witness to me;When the ear heard [me], then it blessed me; and when the eye saw [me], it gave witness to me:
12For I delivered the afflicted that cried, and the fatherless who had no helper.Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and [him that had] none to help him.
13The blessing of him that was perishing came upon me, and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.
14I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; my justice was as a mantle and a turban.I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment [was] as a robe and a diadem.
15I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame;I was eyes to the blind, and feet [was] I to the lame.
16I was a father to the needy, and the cause which I knew not I searched out;I [was] a father to the poor: and the cause [which] I knew not I searched out.
17And I broke the jaws of the unrighteous, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.And I brake the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.
18And I said, I shall die in my nest, and multiply my days as the sand;Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply [my] days as the sand.
19My root shall be spread out to the waters, and the dew will lie all night on my branch;My root [was] spread out by the waters, and the dew lay all night upon my branch.
20My glory shall be fresh in me, and my bow be renewed in my hand.My glory [was] fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.
21Unto me they listened, and waited, and kept silence for my counsel:Unto me [men] gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel.
22After my words they spoke not again, and my speech dropped upon them;After my words they spake not again; and my speech dropped upon them.
23And they waited for me as for the rain, and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide [as] for the latter rain.
24[If] I laughed on them, they believed [it] not; and they troubled not the serenity of my countenance.[If] I laughed on them, they believed [it] not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.
25I chose their way, and sat as chief, and dwelt as a king in the army, as one that comforteth mourners.I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelt as a king in the army, as one [that] comforteth the mourners.

1But now they that are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to set with the dogs of my flock.But now [they that are] younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.
2Yea, whereto [should] the strength of their hands [profit] me, [men] in whom vigour hath perished?Yea, whereto [might] the strength of their hands [profit] me, in whom old age was perished?
3Withered up through want and hunger, they flee into waste places long since desolate and desert:For want and famine [they were] solitary; fleeing into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste.
4They gather the salt-wort among the bushes, and the roots of the broom for their food.Who cut up mallows by the bushes, and juniper roots [for] their meat.
5They are driven forth from among [men] -- they cry after them as after a thief --They were driven forth from among [men], (they cried after them as [after] a thief;)
6To dwell in gloomy gorges, in caves of the earth and the rocks:To dwell in the clifts of the valleys, [in] caves of the earth, and [in] the rocks.
7They bray among the bushes; under the brambles they are gathered together:Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together.
8Sons of fools, and sons of nameless sires, they are driven out of the land.[They were] children of fools, yea, children of base men: they were viler than the earth.
9And now I am their song, yea, I am their byword.And now am I their song, yea, I am their byword.
10They abhor me, they stand aloof from me, yea, they spare not to spit in my face.They abhor me, they flee far from me, and spare not to spit in my face.
11For he hath loosed my cord and afflicted me; so they cast off the bridle before me.Because he hath loosed my cord, and afflicted me, they have also let loose the bridle before me.
12At [my] right hand rise the young brood; they push away my feet, and raise up against me their pernicious ways;Upon [my] right [hand] rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.
13They mar my path, they set forward my calamity, without any to help them;They mar my path, they set forward my calamity, they have no helper.
14They come in as through a wide breach: amid the confusion they roll themselves onward.They came [upon me] as a wide breaking in [of waters]: in the desolation they rolled themselves [upon me].
15Terrors are turned against me; they pursue mine honour as the wind; and my welfare is passed away like a cloud.Terrors are turned upon me: they pursue my soul as the wind: and my welfare passeth away as a cloud.
16And now my soul is poured out in me; days of affliction have taken hold upon me.And now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of affliction have taken hold upon me.
17The night pierceth through my bones [and detacheth them] from me, and my gnawing pains take no rest:My bones are pierced in me in the night season: and my sinews take no rest.
18By their great force they have become my raiment; they bind me about as the collar of my coat.By the great force [of my disease] is my garment changed: it bindeth me about as the collar of my coat.
19He hath cast me into the mire, and I have become like dust and ashes.He hath cast me into the mire, and I am become like dust and ashes.
20I cry unto thee, and thou answerest me not; I stand up, and thou lookest at me.I cry unto thee, and thou dost not hear me: I stand up, and thou regardest me [not].
21Thou art changed to a cruel one to me; with the strength of thy hand thou pursuest me.Thou art become cruel to me: with thy strong hand thou opposest thyself against me.
22Thou liftest me up to the wind; thou causest me to be borne away, and dissolvest my substance.Thou liftest me up to the wind; thou causest me to ride [upon it], and dissolvest my substance.
23For I know that thou wilt bring me to death, and into the house of assemblage for all living.For I know [that] thou wilt bring me [to] death, and [to] the house appointed for all living.
24Indeed, no prayer [availeth] when he stretcheth out [his] hand: though they cry when he destroyeth.Howbeit he will not stretch out [his] hand to the grave, though they cry in his destruction.
25Did not I weep for him whose days were hard? was not my soul grieved for the needy?Did not I weep for him that was in trouble? was [not] my soul grieved for the poor?
26For I expected good, and there came evil; and I waited for light, but there came darkness.When I looked for good, then evil came [unto me]: and when I waited for light, there came darkness.
27My bowels well up, and rest not; days of affliction have confronted me.My bowels boiled, and rested not: the days of affliction prevented me.
28I go about blackened, but not by the sun; I stand up, I cry in the congregation.I went mourning without the sun: I stood up, [and] I cried in the congregation.
29I am become a brother to jackals, and a companion of ostriches.I am a brother to dragons, and a companion to owls.
30My skin is become black [and falleth] off me, and my bones are parched with heat.My skin is black upon me, and my bones are burned with heat.
31My harp also is [turned] to mourning, and my pipe into the voice of weepers.My harp also is [turned] to mourning, and my organ into the voice of them that weep.

1I made a covenant with mine eyes; and how should I fix my regard upon a maid?I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?
2For what would have been [my] portion of +God from above, and what the heritage of the Almighty from on high?For what portion of God [is there] from above? and [what] inheritance of the Almighty from on high?
3Is not calamity for the unrighteous? and misfortune for the workers of iniquity?[Is] not destruction to the wicked? and a strange [punishment] to the workers of iniquity?
4Doth not he see my ways, and number all my steps?Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?
5If I have walked with falsehood, and my foot hath hasted to deceit,If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;
6(Let me be weighed in an even balance, and +God will take knowledge of my blamelessness;)Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know mine integrity.
7If my step have turned out of the way, and my heart followed mine eyes, and if any blot cleaveth to my hands;If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to mine hands;
8Let me sow, and another eat; and let mine offspring be rooted out.[Then] let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let my offspring be rooted out.
9If my heart have been enticed unto a woman, so that I laid wait at my neighbour's door,If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or [if] I have laid wait at my neighbour's door;
10Let my wife grind for another, and let others bow down upon her.[Then] let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her.
11For this is an infamy; yea, it is an iniquity [to be judged by] the judges:For this [is] an heinous crime; yea, it [is] an iniquity [to be punished by] the judges.
12For it is a fire that consumeth to destruction, and would root out all mine increase.For it [is] a fire [that] consumeth to destruction, and would root out all mine increase.
13If I have despised the cause of my bondman or of my bondmaid, when they contended with me,If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;
14What then should I do when God riseth up? and if he visited, what should I answer him?What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?
15Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not One fashion us in the womb?Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?
16If I have withheld the poor from [their] desire, or caused the eyes of the widow to fail;If I have withheld the poor from [their] desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;
17Or have eaten my morsel alone, so that the fatherless ate not thereof,Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;
18(For from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, and I have guided the [widow] from my mother's womb;)(For from my youth he was brought up with me, as [with] a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb;)
19If I have seen any perishing for want of clothing, or any needy without covering;If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;
20If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my lambs;If his loins have not blessed me, and [if] he were [not] warmed with the fleece of my sheep;
21If I have lifted up my hand against an orphan, because I saw my help in the gate:If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:
22[Then] let my shoulder fall from the shoulder-blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone![Then] let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.
23For calamity from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his excellency I was powerless.For destruction [from] God [was] a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.
24If I have made gold my hope, or said to the fine gold, My confidence!If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, [Thou art] my confidence;

1And these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he [was] righteous in his own eyes.
2Then was kindled the anger of Elihu the son of Barachel, the Buzite, of the family of Ram: against Job was his anger kindled, because he justified himself rather than God;Then was kindled the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram: against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.
3and against his three friends was his anger kindled, because they found no answer, and [yet] condemned Job.Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and [yet] had condemned Job.
4But Elihu had waited till Job had finished speaking, because they were older than he.Now Elihu had waited till Job had spoken, because they [were] elder than he.
5And Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of the three men, and his anger was kindled.When Elihu saw that [there was] no answer in the mouth of [these] three men, then his wrath was kindled.
6And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and ye are aged; wherefore I was timid, and feared to shew you what I know.And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I [am] young, and ye [are] very old; wherefore I was afraid, and durst not shew you mine opinion.
7I said, Let days speak, and multitude of years teach wisdom.I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.
8But there is a spirit which is in man; and the breath of the Almighty giveth them understanding.But [there is] a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.
9It is not the great that are wise; neither do the aged understand judgment.Great men are not [always] wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.
10Therefore I say, Hearken to me; I also will shew what I know.Therefore I said, Hearken to me; I also will shew mine opinion.
11Lo, I waited for your words; I gave ear to your reasonings, until ye searched out what to say.Behold, I waited for your words; I gave ear to your reasons, whilst ye searched out what to say.
12Yea, I gave you mine attention, and behold, there was none of you that confuted Job, that answered his words;Yea, I attended unto you, and, behold, [there was] none of you that convinced Job, [or] that answered his words:
13That ye may not say, We have found out wisdom; God will make him yield, not man.Lest ye should say, We have found out wisdom: God thrusteth him down, not man.
14Now he hath not directed [his] words against me; and I will not answer him with your speeches. ...Now he hath not directed [his] words against me: neither will I answer him with your speeches.
15They were amazed, they answered no more; words failed them.They were amazed, they answered no more: they left off speaking.
16And I waited, for they spoke not, but stood still, and answered no more; --When I had waited, (for they spake not, but stood still, [and] answered no more;)
17I will answer, I also in my turn, I also will shew what I know:[I said], I will answer also my part, I also will shew mine opinion.
18For I am full of matter, the spirit within me constraineth me.For I am full of matter, the spirit within me constraineth me.
19Behold, my belly is as wine which hath no vent; like new flasks, it is ready to burst.Behold, my belly [is] as wine [which] hath no vent; it is ready to burst like new bottles.
20I will speak, that I may find relief; I will open my lips and answer.I will speak, that I may be refreshed: I will open my lips and answer.
21Let me not, I pray you, accept any man's person; neither will I give flattery to man.Let me not, I pray you, accept any man's person, neither let me give flattering titles unto man.
22For I know not how to flatter; my Maker would soon take me away.For I know not to give flattering titles; [in so doing] my maker would soon take me away.

1Howbeit, Job, I pray thee, hear mine utterances, and hearken to all my words.Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, and hearken to all my words.
2Behold now, I have opened my mouth, my tongue speaketh in my palate,Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.
3My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart, and my lips shall utter knowledge purely.My words [shall be of] the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.
4The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.
5If thou canst, answer me; array [thy words] before me: take thy stand.If thou canst answer me, set [thy words] in order before me, stand up.
6Behold, before God I am as thou; I also am formed out of the clay.Behold, I [am] according to thy wish in God's stead: I also am formed out of the clay.
7Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, nor my burden be heavy upon thee.Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.
8Surely thou hast spoken in my hearing, and I have heard the voice of [thy] words: --Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of [thy] words, [saying],
9I am clean without transgression; I am pure, and there is no iniquity in me;I am clean without transgression, I [am] innocent; neither [is there] iniquity in me.
10Lo, he findeth occasions of hostility against me, he counteth me for his enemy;Behold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for his enemy,
11He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.
12Behold, I will answer thee in this, thou art not right; for +God is greater than man.Behold, [in] this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.
13Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.
14For God speaketh once, and twice, -- [and man] perceiveth it not --For God speaketh once, yea twice, [yet man] perceiveth it not.
15In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
16Then he openeth men's ears, and sealeth their instruction,Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,
17That he may withdraw man [from his] work, and hide pride from man.That he may withdraw man [from his] purpose, and hide pride from man.
18He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from passing away by the sword.He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
19He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and with constant strife in his bones;He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong [pain]:
20And his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty food;So that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat.
21His flesh is consumed away from view, and his bones that were not seen stick out;His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones [that] were not seen stick out.
22And his soul draweth near to the pit, and his life to the destroyers.Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.
23If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his duty;If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness:
24Then he will be gracious unto him, and say, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.
25His flesh shall be fresher than in childhood; he shall return to the days of his youth.His flesh shall be fresher than a child's: he shall return to the days of his youth:
26He shall pray unto +God, and he will receive him with favour; and he shall see his face with shoutings, and he will render unto man his righteousness.He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.
27He will sing before men, and say, I have sinned, and perverted what was right, and it hath not been requited to me;He looketh upon men, and [if any] say, I have sinned, and perverted [that which was] right, and it profited me not;
28He hath delivered my soul from going into the pit, and my life shall see the light.He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.
29Lo, all these [things] worketh God twice, thrice, with man,Lo, all these [things] worketh God oftentimes with man,
30To bring back his soul from the pit, that he may be enlightened with the light of the living.To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.
31Mark well, Job, hearken unto me; be silent, and I will speak.Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.
32If thou hast anything to say, answer me; speak, for I desire to justify thee.If thou hast any thing to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.
33If not, hearken thou unto me; be silent, and I will teach thee wisdom.If not, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.

1Moreover Elihu answered and said,Furthermore Elihu answered and said,
2Hear my words, ye wise [men]; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.Hear my words, O ye wise [men]; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.
3For the ear trieth words, as the palate tasteth food.For the ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat.
4Let us choose for ourselves what is right; let us know among ourselves what is good!Let us choose to us judgment: let us know among ourselves what [is] good.
5For Job hath said, I am righteous, and God hath taken away my judgment:For Job hath said, I am righteous: and God hath taken away my judgment.
6Should I lie against my right? My wound is incurable without transgression.Should I lie against my right? my wound [is] incurable without transgression.
7What man is like Job? he drinketh up scorning like water,What man [is] like Job, [who] drinketh up scorning like water?
8And goeth in company with workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.Which goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.
9For he hath said, It profiteth not a man if he delight himself in God.For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.
10Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: Far be wickedness from God, and wrong from the Almighty!Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: far be it from God, [that he should do] wickedness; and [from] the Almighty, [that he should commit] iniquity.
11For a man's work will he render to him, and cause every one to find according to [his] way.For the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to [his] ways.
12Yea, surely, God acteth not wickedly, and the Almighty perverteth not judgment.Yea, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.
13Who hath entrusted to him the earth? and who hath disposed the whole world?Who hath given him a charge over the earth? or who hath disposed the whole world?
14If he only thought of himself, [and] gathered unto him his spirit and his breath,If he set his heart upon man, [if] he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;
15All flesh would expire together, and man would return to the dust.All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.
16If now [thou hast] understanding, hear this: give ear to the voice of my words!If now [thou hast] understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words.
17Should he that hateth right indeed govern? and wilt thou condemn the All-just?Shall even he that hateth right govern? and wilt thou condemn him that is most just?
18Shall one say to a king, Belial? to nobles, Wicked?[Is it fit] to say to a king, [Thou art] wicked? [and] to princes, [Ye are] ungodly?
19[How then to him] that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich man more than the poor? for they are all the work of his hands.[How much less to him] that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all [are] the work of his hands.
20In a moment they die, even at midnight the people are convulsed and pass away; and the strong are taken away without hand.In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.
21For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his steps.For his eyes [are] upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings.
22There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.[There is] no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
23For he doth not long consider a man, to bring him before God in judgment.For he will not lay upon man more [than right]; that he should enter into judgment with God.
24He breaketh in pieces mighty men without inquiry, and setteth others in their stead;He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their stead.
25Since he knoweth their actions; and he overthroweth [them] in the night, and they are crushed.Therefore he knoweth their works, and he overturneth [them] in the night, so that they are destroyed.
26He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others,He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others;
27Because they have turned back from him, and would consider none of his ways;Because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways:
28So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.
29When he giveth quietness, who then will disturb? and when he hideth [his] face, who shall behold him? and this towards a nation, or towards a man alike;When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth [his] face, who then can behold him? whether [it be done] against a nation, or against a man only:
30That the ungodly man reign not, that the people be not ensnared.That the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared.
31For hath he said unto God, I bear [chastisement], I will not offend;Surely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne [chastisement], I will not offend [any more]:
32What I see not, teach thou me; if I have done wrong, I will do so no more?[That which] I see not teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.
33Shall he recompense according to thy mind? for thou hast refused [his judgment]; for thou so choosest, and not I; speak then what thou knowest.[Should it be] according to thy mind? he will recompense it, whether thou refuse, or whether thou choose; and not I: therefore speak what thou knowest.
34Men of understanding will say to me, and a wise man who heareth me:Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man hearken unto me.
35Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words were not with intelligence.Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words [were] without wisdom.
36Would that Job may be tried unto the end, because of [his] answers after the manner of evil men!My desire [is that] Job may be tried unto the end because of [his] answers for wicked men.
37For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth [his hands] among us, and multiplieth his words against God.For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth [his hands] among us, and multiplieth his words against God.

1Moreover Elihu answered and said,Elihu spake moreover, and said,
2Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God's?Thinkest thou this to be right, [that] thou saidst, My righteousness [is] more than God's?
3For thou hast asked of what profit it is unto thee: what do I gain more than if I had sinned?For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? [and], What profit shall I have, [if I be cleansed] from my sin?
4I will reply to thee in words, and to thy companions with thee.I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.
5Look unto the heavens and see; and survey the skies: they are higher than thou.Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds [which] are higher than thou.
6If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? If thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or [if] thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?
7If thou be righteous, what givest thou to him? or what doth he receive of thy hand?If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?
8Thy wickedness [may affect] a man as thou [art], and thy righteousness a son of man.Thy wickedness [may hurt] a man as thou [art]; and thy righteousness [may profit] the son of man.
9By reason of the multitude of oppressions they cry; they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty:By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make [the oppressed] to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.
10But none saith, Where is +God my Maker, who giveth songs in the night,But none saith, Where [is] God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;
11Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowl of the heavens?Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?
12There they cry, and he answereth not, because of the pride of evil men.There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men.
13Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.
14Although thou sayest thou dost not see him, judgment is before him, therefore wait for him.Although thou sayest thou shalt not see him, [yet] judgment [is] before him; therefore trust thou in him.
15But now, because he hath not visited in his anger, doth not [Job] know [his] great arrogancy?But now, because [it is] not [so], he hath visited in his anger; yet he knoweth [it] not in great extremity:
16For Job hath opened his mouth in vanity, and made words abundant without knowledge.Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplieth words without knowledge.

1And Elihu proceeded and said,Elihu also proceeded, and said,
2Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee that I have yet words for +God.Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee that [I have] yet to speak on God's behalf.
3I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Creator.I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.
4For truly my words shall be no falsehood: one perfect in knowledge is with thee.For truly my words [shall] not [be] false: he that is perfect in knowledge [is] with thee.
5Lo, God is mighty, but despiseth not [any]; mighty in strength of understanding:Behold, God [is] mighty, and despiseth not [any: he is] mighty in strength [and] wisdom.
6He saveth not the wicked alive; but he doeth justice to the afflicted.He preserveth not the life of the wicked: but giveth right to the poor.
7He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous, but with kings on the throne doth he even set them for ever; and they are exalted.He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous: but with kings [are they] on the throne; yea, he doth establish them for ever, and they are exalted.
8And if, bound in fetters, they be held in cords of affliction,And if [they be] bound in fetters, [and] be holden in cords of affliction;
9Then he sheweth them their work, and their transgressions, because they have increased.Then he sheweth them their work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded.
10And he openeth their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.
11If they hearken and serve [him], they shall accomplish their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.If they obey and serve [him], they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.
12But if they hearken not, they shall pass away by the sword, and expire without knowledge.But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge.
13But the godless in heart heap up anger; they cry not when he bindeth them:But the hypocrites in heart heap up wrath: they cry not when he bindeth them.
14Their soul dieth in youth, and their life is among the unclean.They die in youth, and their life [is] among the unclean.
15But he delivereth the afflicted in his affliction, and openeth their ear in [their] oppression.He delivereth the poor in his affliction, and openeth their ears in oppression.
16Even so would he have allured thee out of the jaws of distress into a broad place, where there is no straitness; and the supply of thy table [would be] full of fatness.Even so would he have removed thee out of the strait [into] a broad place, where [there is] no straitness; and that which should be set on thy table [should be] full of fatness.
17But thou art full of the judgments of the wicked: judgment and justice take hold [on thee].But thou hast fulfilled the judgment of the wicked: judgment and justice take hold [on thee].
18Because there is wrath, [beware] lest it take thee away through chastisement: then a great ransom could not avail thee.Because [there is] wrath, [beware] lest he take thee away with [his] stroke: then a great ransom cannot deliver thee.
19Will he esteem thy riches? Not gold, nor all the resources of strength!Will he esteem thy riches? [no], not gold, nor all the forces of strength.
20Desire not the night, when peoples are cut off from their place.Desire not the night, when people are cut off in their place.
21Take heed, turn not to iniquity; for this hast thou chosen rather than affliction.Take heed, regard not iniquity: for this hast thou chosen rather than affliction.
22Lo, God is exalted in his power: who teacheth as he?Behold, God exalteth by his power: who teacheth like him?
23Who hath appointed him his way? or who hath said, Thou hast wrought unrighteousness?Who hath enjoined him his way? or who can say, Thou hast wrought iniquity?
24Remember that thou magnify his work, which men celebrate.Remember that thou magnify his work, which men behold.
25All men look at it; man beholdeth [it] afar off.Every man may see it; man may behold [it] afar off.
26Lo, God is great, and we comprehend [him] not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.Behold, God [is] great, and we know [him] not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.
27For he draweth up the drops of water: they distil in rain from the vapour which he formeth,For he maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour thereof:
28Which the skies pour down [and] drop upon man abundantly.Which the clouds do drop [and] distil upon man abundantly.
29But can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, [or] the crashing of his pavilion?Also can [any] understand the spreadings of the clouds, [or] the noise of his tabernacle?
30Lo, he spreadeth his light around him, and covereth the bottom of the sea.Behold, he spreadeth his light upon it, and covereth the bottom of the sea.

32[His] hands he covereth with lightning, and commandeth it where it is to strike.With clouds he covereth the light; and commandeth it [not to shine] by [the cloud] that cometh betwixt.

7And it came to pass after Jehovah had spoken these words to Job, that Jehovah said to Eliphaz the Temanite, Mine anger is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends; for ye have not spoken rightly of me, like my servant Job.And it was [so], that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me [the thing that is] right, as my servant Job [hath].
8And now, take for yourselves seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt-offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you, for him will I accept: lest I deal with you [after your] folly, for ye have not spoken of me rightly, like my servant Job.Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you [after your] folly, in that ye have not spoken of me [the thing which is] right, like my servant Job.
